Walls of Kotor

The walls of Kotor are stretched around the town and also around San Giovanni hill.
The imposing stone walls of Kotor are more than 4,5 km long, up to 20 meters high
and up to 10metres wide. Construction of the walls began in the 9th Century and in
the next ten centuries they were constantly upgraded.

It is a special experience to climb the walls and walk on the edges of the city, and
enjoy the magnificent view on the Old Town and the sea. The stairs that lead to the
walls of Kotor are easy to reach from several places inside the town.

The biggest challenge but for sure worth the effort is to continue the climbing uphill
to the San Giovanni fortress. 1426 steps long road may seem a bit scary but with a
several rest stations the journey will be easier and more interesting than you think.
Also, those rest stations are perfect spots for a divine panorama photos of the sea,
Kotor roofs and tops of the cathedrals. Once you reach the top of the hill with an
unforgettable breathtaking view on Boka Bay you will see why it was worth to climb
on 280 meters over the sea level and why the beauty of Boka Bay inspired many
famous domestic and international poets.
