Perast and Lady of the Rocks

Did you really visit the Boka Bay if you didn`t enjoy a coffee, or glass of wine, in one
of the authentic restaurants on the Perast shoreline, before taking a quick boat tour
to the magnificent island Lady of the Rocks?

Easily accessible by car, ride to Perast from Kotor wont last more than 10minutes.
Perast is a large pedestrian area with options to hire bicycles and segways.
Although Perast is a small place, it is famous for sixteen palaces and nineteen
churches, that are located on its ground and represent a impressive historical and
cultural heritage.

The artificial island Lady of the Rocks was formed in the XV century, thanks to the
Perast locals who were bringing and throwing stones and rocks around the cliff. The
tradition of throwing the rocks next to the island is still alive and takes place each
year on 22nd of July, during the traditional event called Fasinada.

The Church on the island, with its outstanding beauty and precious artifacts, will
enchant you even more with its incredible legends. One of many legends,
connected to this cute island, tells the story about everlasting, faithful love full of
hope and patience despite the time passing. In fact, Jakunta Kunić, beautiful lady
from Perast, who was waiting for her beloved husband (sailor) to return from the
sea, embroidered a tapestry of the Holy Virgin. This outstanding tapestry consists of
strands of Jakuntas hair woven into it during the long period of 25 ages. Different
colors of the strands of hair – dark light and grey, represents all the different ages
Jakunta went through while waiting for her darling husband to be back, with the
same faith and hope as she had from the first day of their love. Unfortunately, her
husband never returned and after finishing this unique tapestry Jakunta became
blind.
